Hello Everyone!

We are delighted to have author Karen Stillwagon amongst us today at Musikdiv India Online Magazine at our Special ‘Authors Festival’ interview series to tell us about her new book Playing Fields!
Please read on …

Caught with his hands in the cookie jar… well, almost. When a woman suspects the man in her life of infidelity, it’s Cassidy Fields he needs to be on the watch for. As a very specialized private investigator, she’ll study her subject then turn all her womanly wiles on him to see if he’ll stray. 98% of the time they do. But when Cassidy’s brother is murdered and the lead cop on the case is one of her unfaithful victims, will he block Cassidy from finding the truth? As secret after secret is unveiled can Cassidy hide just who her brother was from her mother? Will the cop she once caught in the act turn her eye and catch her? Find out in Playing Fields.

So Karen, we’ll start your Interview with the very first question

1. Please introduce and tell the readers something about yourself.

My name is Karen Stillwagon, I am married to a wonderful and supportive man and we have two daughters, 17 and 19.
I graduated with my BS from Western Oregon University in 2000, majoring in Art with a minor in Liturature. My husband built me an art studio surrounded by trees and a pond where I can let my creative mind soar.

2. What brought you to writing?

I have written many short stories since I was in jr. high and have always had a love for writing. In college, while taking the Lit classes I loved reading and writing about what I had read. After college I jumped into my art creating oil paintings and then venturing into charcoal where I have been commissioned to do many pet portraits. But writing has always been in the back of my mind. A few years ago I decided to jump in with both feet and write a book. It all stemmed from the most god-awful pick up line a guy used on my at my brother’s bbq. That pick up line inspired the entire book.

3. How many books have you written?

I have written one book, published on Kindle, “Playing Fields” and am busy on my second book.

4. How long have you been writing?

My whole life. I only now found the courage to put my first book out there for everyone to see.

5. Which was your first literary project?Tell us something about it

. When I was in the 8th grade I had a blank notebook. I started to write a story about a plane crash where just one kid survived. The plane was carrying wild animals as cargo that was heading to a zoo. The story filled the entire notebook. The editor at our school paper liked the story so much that she was going to publish it in the paper, one chapter at a time. The story never appeared and the notebook was lost. Heartbreaking as it was to lose it, it was a wonderful experience just to have it go that far.

6. Is this your new/latest project? What inspired you to write your (latest) book?

My latest book is a sequel to the one I just published. My character will continue with her job as woman who tests the “infidelities” of men who are not single and gets caught up in a murder.

7. Traditional books or e-books? How do you prefer to see your works published? Have you tried ever publishing the traditional way?

I was going to take my first book and try to get it published the traditional way. I had it edited and ready to send out when my brother contacted me and told me about Kindle. Within the first day of it’s debut, I had it as a free promo, I had over 1500 downloads. I was thrilled and it lit a fire under me to get my second book out there for the readers to read.

8. Can you give a chapter sample preview of your book here for our readers to know more about it.

( Please look at the bottom of the interview for book excerpts )

9. Do you have any funny / interesting incidents on how you came up with plots or characters?

As I said, the opening line in my book came from a line someone actually used on me. It was bad. But to be fair, not only did the line not work on me, but it made me stay way away from the guy and gave me the chance to talk with the man who is now my husband. He constantly teases me about the how I could have married “Tom” if I had chosen to take the man up on his pick-up line!

10. What are your hobbies?Things that you enjoy doing besides books of course.

I love my family. When I am not in my art studio I love being with my family. My daughters, Kelsea and Denielle are so important to me. With one in college and the other a senior in high school I spend as much time with them as I can because by next year they will both be moving away from home. Also, I love my dogs. I have a Toy Poode, a Shih Tzu and a Rottweiler who all hang out in the studio with me. My husband says he can always find me by following the dogs. My favorite past time is reading. When I have down time you find me with a book (or Kindle or Nook) in my hand.

11. Who is your favourite author?

Stephen King, hands down. I read many genres but when the question of favorite author is ask, he is who I turn to. He has infuenced me the most for doing what I love to do. I also Love Sue Grafton, J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) Tami Hoag, Lisa Jackson and others of that genre. Bently Little, John Saul and Robert McCammon are some other favorites.

12. Is your writing style at all influenced by those of your favorite authors?

I would say mostly Sue Grafton if I had to choose one.

13. What is your favourite genre to read and also to write?

I love mystery/romance and the horror.

14. Do you have a role model that you get inspiration from?

When thinking about it, yes, as I write I take the strengths and beauty I see in my daughters and turn it into a world of fun and chaos where I think they would kick some… you get the idea!

15. Where do get your ideas from?Do you take your story ideas from real life situations?

No, I think of just one scene, or incident and the story takes off on its own. I don’t even know where it’s going most the time.

16. Do you have a pseudonym?

17.Whats your experience been like in the publishing industry?Postive or negative? Please share your experience with our readers.

So far it’s been positive but I am just in my early stages of this.

18. Where do you see yourself 10years from now?

Continuing with my Cassidy Fields series and also writing other stories as well. I see my books being read and enjoyed by milliions!

19. What motivates you to write?

My imagination. My motto, if you will, that I use as the signature of all my corrospondences is, “Imagination is the only weapon in the war again reality…” I do not know where this quote came from but I ive by it.

20. How important is good cover art for your books?

Extremely and being an artist I am able to do my own covers and I offer my services to any author who is looking for cover designs.

21. Do you have a price strategy for your books?

Because it is an ebook I am starting out low to get it out there. I want it read and for readers to talk about it and for them to pass it on for their friends to enjoy. Getting my name and book out there is more important than the cash flow right now. I am doing this as a way to get recognized as an author. I will worry about making money later.

22. How does it make you feel when you read a bestselling book that you don’t feel is as good as yours?

At first it was disheartening but now I realize I am in a class of my own, just as every author is. We all have a story to tell and our individual way of telling it. Our words come from our heart and no two hearts are the same.

23.Why do you think readers should buy your book? What can you offer them through your book?

I can offer them a fun read, an adventure in the life of Cassidy Fields, who at first is not sure of relationships until one falls into her lap. The story is also about her family and how it made her who she is today and her growth from the death of her brother and how it changed her and her mother’s relationship.

24.Where is your book available?Any Buy Link for our readers?

25.Do you have a website or a blog that you’d like to share here.
Right now it still is mostly about my art but I am getting my writings up on it too.

26. What advice would you give to other writers?

Set a time aside each day to write and stick to it. If you cannot do a set time then set yourself a goal of how many written words you will write a day. And then maintain that goal!

27.Anything else you’d like to share with our readers

Read! Read! Read! It keeps your mind fresh and ideas flowing!

    Playing Fields By Karen Stillwagon

“Oh Baby, if I can’t have you now my balls are going to burst!” Good lord there have been many bad lines muttered in a bar but this is by far the worst. But I agreed to take the case and I was here to do a job. But if I had to deal with this guy for too much longer I’d have to hurt him. Finding him was easy. He was the one making his rounds to all the single women, and subsequently getting rejected by the same. The night was too young and the crowd too sober for him to find any takers. After securing a place at the bar where crowd was in view, I lean over to order a drink, wearing my black sundress that fits like a glove, my breasts all but falling out, and Charlie makes his approach.

My name is Cassidy Fields. My job is to follow husbands, making myself available to them all the while proving him a womanizer and a cheat. And nine times out of ten I get my man. And once he’s mine the wife gets a nice settlement. There are times it’s just boyfriends I am hired to lure, by women who are interested in finding out the faithfulness of their man before marriage is an issue.
